Administrative HistorySadler's Wells Ballet Company (previously named Vic-Wells Ballet Company) is the predecessor The Royal Ballet which was established in 1931 by Ninette de Valois. It became the resident ballet company at the Royal Opera House in 1946 and attained the Royal Charter in 1956; as a result of which it was renamed in the Royal Ballet shortly thereafter.
