DescriptionThe file includes notes containing advice and discussion on how to write stories and plays. This also includes collected quotes on the subject of writing from other writers. The notes are dated c1930s-1960s. Some of the notes have been written on scrap paper. Items used for scrap paper include: - A blank invitation to a garden meeting held by Miss Lamburn [Richmal Crompton Lamburn, also known as Richmal Crompton] for the United Society for Christian Literature (the speaker at the meeting was to be HEJ Biggs [full name not stated]); invitation written c1930s-c1950s. - Parts of pages from typed scripts for William [radio] plays; scripts created c1940s-c1950s. - Part of leaflet advertising a concert as part of the Music Lovers' Circle at the London Lyceum Club; leaflet dated 1949. - Pages from annotated, typed draft copies of stories [not William stories]; draft copies created and annotated in c1950s. - Parts of pages from annotated, proof copies of books [not William books]; proof copies created and annotated in c1950s. - An invitation for RC Lamburn [Richmal Crompton Lamburn, also known as Richmal Crompton] to attend a wedding in Beckenham, Kent; invitation dated 1954. - Part of a letter to RC Lamburn [Richmal Crompton Lamburn, also known as Richmal Crompton] from AP Watt and Son, London, [literary agents], discussing an instance of William books being published without permission; letter dated 1958. - A letter to Richmal Crompton from a fan; letter dated 1965. - Part of a blank slip used to pay money to the 200 Venture, Sidcup, Kent [maybe part of an advertising letter?]; slip dated 1967. - A letter to Richmal C Lamburn [Richmal Crompton Lamburn, also known as Richmal Crompton] from a resident of Chislehurst, Kent, discussing the ambulance service; letter dated 1968. The file also contains a press cutting [name of publication not stated] containing an article titled "Clever Young Men", being an extract from a collection of essays by Marcel Proust, translated into English by Sylvia Townsend Warner, and published by Chatto and Windus. Cutting dated c1958.
