DescriptionThe file contains the following: - Correspondence sent to Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton] and to AP Watt and Son, London, [literary agents], from Kay Williams, relating to the creation, by Kay Williams, of a biography of Richmal Crompton (titled "Just Richmal"); correspondence dated 1973-1987. Included are notes and corrections [made by Richmal Ashbee] about the draft copy of the biography [the draft copy is not present in the file]; notes and corrections made in c1977. - A letter to Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton] from Genesis Publications Ltd., Guildford, Surrey, relating to the publication of "Just Richmal" [biography of Richmal Crompton] by Kay Williams; letter dated 1986. - An annotated, typed draft copy of the booklet "Richmal Crompton and Her Bromley Connections" by Mary Cadogan; created and annotated in c2001. Also includes: correspondence sent to Richmal [Richmal Ashbee, niece of Richmal Crompton] from Mary Cadogan, relating to the creation of the booklet (correspondence dated 2001); and notes and corrections [made by Richmal Ashbee] about the draft copy of the booklet (notes and corrections made in c2001). - A press pack created by Macmillan, [publishers], to promote the book "The William Companion" by Mary Cadogan; press pack created in c1990. The press pack contains sections from the book and the cover for the book. Included is a covering note sent with the press pack to Richmal [Richmal Ashbee, niece of Richmal Crompton] from Mary [Cadogan]; note written in c1990. - An empty envelope addressed to Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton], including a first class stamp showing [characters from the William Stories]; envelope and stamp dated c1993. - Annotated photocopies of correspondence [annotated by Richmal Ashbee, niece of Richmal Crompton] and photocopies of notes [written by Richmal Ashbee] about the editing of William stories to bring them up-to-date. Most of the correspondence appears to have been sent to Richmal Ashbee or to AP Watt and Son, [literary agents], from Wm. Collins Sons and Co. Ltd., Glasgow, publishers. The correspondence was created in 1971 and the notes and annotations were created in c1971-c1972; the photocopies were made in c1971-c1972. - Letter to Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton] from AP Watt Ltd., London, literary agents, relating to sales of "Richmal Crompton" [a biography of Richmal Crompton] by Mary Cadogan; letter dated 1989. - Press cuttings containing reviews of "The Just William Lady", a stage play and radio play by Alison Neil about Richmal Crompton; reviews dated 1996 and 2001. - An advertising leaflet for the stage play "The Just William Lady" by Alison Neil, about Richmal Crompton, and performed at the Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks, Kent; leaflet created in c1996. - Correspondence sent to Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton] and to AP Watt Ltd., London, literary agents, from Alison Neil, relating to the creation, by Alison Neil, of a stage play about Richmal Crompton [titled "The Just William Lady"]; correspondence dated 1995. - Correspondence between Richmal Ashbee [niece of Richmal Crompton] and David Schutte, relating to the publication of William stories and articles [written by Richmal Crompton] that hadn't before been published in book form; correspondence dated 1983-1986.
