Physical Description | Queen Jessie (Miss J H Webb) wrote extensive notes for the College about her robes:
‘The Green Train [it is blue rather than green] has not been cleaned or washed. The embroidered panel has also not been cleaned or washed. It is not the original one which slowly rotted….
Bertha Rogers, a student of Queen Agnes’ year, made and embroidered the new panel, but slightly altered one of the colours since she was not happy with it. Bertha’s husband, an artist, did the drawings….
The worn out ‘dorothy bag’ is included because it was part of the set. Because the voting for the Queen took place during the May Day celebration, the robe was made as suitable as possible to fit anyone, so safety pins came in useful, and later on the dress was made as suitable as possible. The train was folded under at the top and pinned on with green home-made buckles.
The cord was tied round the waist with ends handing equally on either side. The expense of any of the extras was paid for by the students of 1917-19, and we made a special china ornament chosen by Bertha as a gift for her kindness.
